Pre-Wrath

ID #1004

I was wondering why you placed the first, second, and third seals before the Abomination of Desolation is revealed instead of afterwards?

There are several reasons for placing the seals where I have.  First, no where are the seals called the "wrath" of God.  It is not until the sixth seal is opened that the scriptures say the wrath of God has come.  Then, the seventh seal is opened and the wrath of God in the form of the trumpets judgments begin.

Furthermore, the seals coincide with the beginning of birth pains described in Matthew 24 which do occur before the Abomination of Desolation.  If you look at " PREWRATH > Timing of the Rapture," about half-way down the page I compare the seals to Matthew 24.

The first seal is the appearance of Antichrist and it corresponds to...

Mat 24:4-5 (NIV) Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. {5} For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many.

The second seal is the seal of wars and it does correspond to Matthew before the Abomination of Desolation takes place.

Mat 24:6-7 (NIV) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. {7} Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…

The third seal is the seal of famine. Mat 24:7 NIV) ... There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

The fourth and fifth seals are death and martyrs which correspond to the approximate time of the mid-point of the 70th week when the Antichrist will be revealed.

Matt 24:8-10 (NIV) All these are the beginning of birth pains. {9} "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. {10} At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other…

Mat 24:21-22 (NIV) For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. {22} If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

The sixth seal is the sign of the Day of the Lord - the moon turns to blood (red), the sun is darkened and the stars fall from the sky (no longer shine).

Matt 24:29-31 (NIV) Immediately after the distress of those days 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' {30} At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. {31} And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (emphasis added)

Is this not the rapture?

Matt 24:37-38 (NIV) As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. {38} For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; {39}and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. {40} Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. (emphasis added)

Now, this leads me to the last point.  One of the reasons that the seals 1 through 3 happen before the mid-point is because you must line up the prophecy according to the sign of the Day of the Lord.  This sign is all through scripture and it is what makes all of the prophecies make sense.

Joel 2:10 (NIV) Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine.

Joel 2:31 (NIV) The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

Joel 3:14-15 (NIV) Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. {15} The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine.

Amos 8:9 (NIV) "In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.

Rev 6:12-14 (NIV) I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, {13} and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. {14} The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. {15} Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. {16} They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! {17} For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

Mark 13:24-27 (NIV) But in those days, following that distress, 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; {25} the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' {26} At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. {27} And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

Luke 21:25-28 (NIV) There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. {26} Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. {27} At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. {28} When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

Acts 2:20-21 (NIV) The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. {21} And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

I go into more detail on this at "PREWRATH > The Day of the Lord."

Now I do agree that when the Antichrist comes on the scene he will bring peace and the world will view him as the savior.  But, even in the midst of this there will be wars and rumors of wars and famine and persecution.  The Antichrist will probably blame this on those nations which resist him.

The whole picture in Revelation is that the scroll that is sealed with 7 seals IS the scroll of the Day of the Lord.  When the seventh seal is broken the Day of the Lord's wrath begins.
